{"id":607,"date":"2016-08-31T15:47:28","date_gmt":"2016-08-31T15:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/edspace.american.edu\/faculty1\/?page_id=607"},"modified":"2025-07-16T19:23:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T19:23:50","slug":"giant-project","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mandalaprojects.com\/wordpress\/index.php\/giant-project\/","title":{"rendered":"GIANT Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Geographic Indications and International Trade (GIANT) is a project that looks at international trade, intellectual property, economics, environment, and culture.<\/p>\n<h2>Click to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mandalaprojects.com\/giant-project\/GIANT-all.htm\">See the GIANT Cases<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The GIANT Project hopes to serve as a base of research through which academics and students around the world learn about geographic indications, their impacts on trade today, and the numerous debates being waged around the world on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p>Trade and Environment Database<\/a> (TED) includes many cases on a diverse range of topics. \u00a0One focus is culturally and geographically indicated products such as Tequila, Parmesan or Champagne.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe GIANT Project builds on the work of TED but with a focus specifically on geographic indications: intellectual property claims that are increasingly dominating international trade talks today. Though geographic indications have been around in various forms for over one hundred years, countries have only recently begun staking legal claims to products once thought to be generic, such as parmesan cheese, catfish, and whiskey.
