The Politics and Geo-Politics of Rain-Making<\/h2>\n

Rainmaking is the oldest form of geo-engineering, although there is little evidence it actually worked until the middle of the 20th century. \u00a0It has always held a powerful spot in people’s imagination. \u00a0The Mayans and other people sacrificed many people an animals in the mistaken belief that it would entice rain. \u00a0The belief held sway among more advanced people too. \u00a0 The Nash play “The Rainmaker”<\/a><\/span>, about the Midwest United States during a drought, was made into a hit movie starring Burt Lancaster. \u00a0It was a mix of human and natural forces. \u00a0One prominent proponent of rain-making was the former king of Thailand. \u00a0In November 1955,\u00a0King Bhumibol Adulyadej<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>began the Royal Rain-Making Project<\/a> that continues to this day. \u00a0Here is a more recent update<\/a><\/span> on the project from the Thai Embassy in Washington, DC.<\/h4>\n
